BIO:

I was born Amanda Gooding, the 2nd of three children, on a beautiful little island called Bequia, that is only 7-9 sq. mile long. After graduating from my local high school, I found myself locked away in my bedroom with my grandmother’s old typewriter, compulsively writing poems and songs. I never taught I’d become a singer-songwriter until I realized, in order for the public to hear my songs I would have to perform them myself. After a few years of self-taught guitar practicing and voice training, I became eager to see what I was made of.
So I entered a local over 19 talent search competition, and I won! with an original song.So I teamed up with local producer Antonio A.K.A ‘Body’ Simmons, together we produced (Tell Me, Holocaust, Never out of reach, & Rescue me). All songs were released on local radio stations in 2005. The song ‘Tell Me’ became an instant hit locally, and soon after I was given the opportunity to perform at The Bequia Mount Gay Music Fest for the first time. I opened up the festival for a few years before moving up, what I call, main stream. Soon after I began playing at local restaurants & Bar on the island.
While anchored in Rodney Bay Marina, ST. Lucia, I met an English American couple who were into music & photography. Mike & Nicola was so impressed with my writing & singing, they then offered to produce four of my original songs which are now on my Debut Album ‘Life’s Too Short’ 2012.
It took a lot for me to ask Mike to produce the album because; I was turned down & ignored by many local and regional producers I got in contact with. In the end he was delighted that I asked, and so I took the biggest step of my life. I booked my ticket for New York and as they say, ‘the rest is history’.
It was quite a culture shock coming from a quiet laid back island like Bequia, to the busy bombarding atmosphere of Manhattan. But on the 10th floor of 29th & 5th, I felt at home with Mike, Nicola & their cat Banksy. After the album was finished, I came back home and launched it at Bequia Annual, Mount Gay Music Fest 2012, De Reef Lower bay.
It’s been a year since my Debut Album was launched. Still crafting my talent while collaborating with a few local Artists such as Abuza, I’m also featured on his album doing the song I co-wrote ‘In it for the money’ which will be out this year 2013. We’re also in the final stage of mixing the song ‘Naughty Girls’ which I co-wrote with another local Artist A.K.A. ‘Ice Man’.
So if you’re anywhere near Bequia, The Grenadines, come look me up! I’ll be happy to play a few songs for you.
